For eight years and five loudspeaker models, IO Design has aimed a precise target: not chasing trends, not endlessly recycling the same projects, but questioning what truly stands between reproduced sound and the feeling of a real instrument physically playing in front of us.

GRANTORINO is the fifth chapter of that journey.

Built around a patent-pending concept, it brings together technologies and solutions developed through decades of research, listening and experimentation. Bass drivers and the subwoofer are custom-made exclusively for IO Design by top Italian manufacturers, combined with advanced anti-vibration compounds, proprietary crossover architecture and extensive tuning work carried out through countless listening sessions.

Every element serves one purpose: preserving speed, coherence, energy and realism in a way that conventional loudspeaker architectures can never achieve.

That difference is not subtle. GRANTORINO does not play louder or reveal more detail. It projects instruments with body and physical presence, maintaining harmonic integrity, tonal consistency and dynamic freedom with the lowest possible compression and distortion. There is a sense of energy filling the room in a natural way — not with volume, but with energy — allowing instruments and voices to breathe, decay and materialize with the effortless character of a live performance. The sensation is less about hearing loudspeakers and more about forgetting they are there.

Audiophiles familiar with traditional concepts have unconsciously adapted, over decades, to sonic signatures imposed by cabinets, resonances and dynamic compromises. GRANTORINO belongs somewhere else. Carrying much of our Grand Reference DNA into a more accessible model, its performance-to-price ratio reached a level that genuinely surprised even us. In direct listening comparisons, GRANTORINO comfortably enters territories usually occupied by products costing well beyond twice its price.

And then there is the object itself. Entirely Made in Italy, GRANTORINO combines obsessive engineering with true craftsmanship: hand-stitched leather bases, bespoke finishes, custom colors and details and a level of manufacturing care increasingly rare at any price level.

IO Design is proud to present the new GRAND REFERENCE loudspeaker! It was nearly impossible to push the NAKED concept to the limit, but we did reaching a true pinnacle delivering the most natural sound performance available on the market at any price point, bordering the physical presence of the instruments in your ambient.

Everything was extremized: proprietary silver wiring, top Mundorf  components, a complete newly engineered crossover, the big 18″ woofers from Acoustic Elegance, damping solutions… a substantial leap in audio reproduction.

The Io Design Grand Reference system rehashes and reinforces all the unique and exclusive concepts and features already present in the Naked models but, without any budget constraint, we pushed the concept to the limits of current parts and material availability.
IO Design goal is to further enhance the Naked concept ability, to materialize a live event in your room, recreating a scale reproduction evermore closer to reality.
Any loudspeaker manufacturer claims the same, but the flaws of the old concept of boxed or dipole speakers is repeated again and again with new designs, materials and even some intuition but no getting down to the point that those old designs can’t allow reproducing the most important parameters of a live performance, in a totally faithful way, always introducing something that, at IO Design, it means Input-Output because nothing should be in between…

This approach allows IO Design listeners to experience the emotion of the original sound physical and tangible presence in all its complexity, practically with the same sound pressure in all the room regardless the position.
